Let's All Go To The Fair!
Alright! I haven't blogged in a little while, but I am getting better! Today the blog will be about the annual founders day picnic my town holds every year. Now, in our town of 3,000, the picnic is the IT place to see and be seen. It's our little attempt at a home-grown hick grammies. None the less, it can be fun.
The picnic always is held from Thursday to Saturday. My town is VERY conservative, and since the picnic is held on Main Street and there happens to be about 4 or 5 churches on Main Street, the picnic has to be picked up and out of there by 6 a.m. Sunday morning.
Now, if you don't go to the picnic for anything else, you have to go for the food! Now, I have eaten A LOT of corndogs in my 19 years upon this earth and none have ever surpassed the corn dogs of our picnic! You can either buy a regular corndog OR a foot long corndog! Oh my gosh, they are so good! Along with corndogs, there is your typical picnic foods- Suzy Qs, Funnel Cakes, Shaved Ice, Candy Apples, Cotton Candy, Nachos- all your faves! This year we also had some new stands! A church had Chili Pie and Taco Salad- TO GO! It was so cool! and good! haha What they did was took a bag- one of the ones you can buy in the check out line of Wal*Mart- of either Frito's or Cheese Doritos, opened it, and put in diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, graded cheese, sour cream, and, of course, the hamburger! Then you just mixed it together and tada! Taco Salad/Chili Pie To Go! And to top it all off it was delicous!
Thursday my family went just for food. It was so humid! We were there for maybe an hour and we couldn't take it! Now, it's always hot during the fair but I have NEVER been there when it was so uncomfortably humid! Friday my mom, my sister, and I went. We got more food and just walked around. Usually I ride the rides, but this year I had no desire to! All I could think was GERMS!!! But I suppose germs are everywhere... haha. Later we met up with my cousin, her husband, and their two kids- whom I love so much! We walked around with them and watched while they rode. They had so much fun! And I had fun watching them! :)
Saturday was the last day. My mom had to work so her and my dad came after she got off. My sister and I went and met up with one of my sister's friends. We walked around, talked to people, and, yes, ate more food!!! Later my sister and her friend walked over to her friend's house and I stayed with my other cousin, his wife, daughter, and some of his wife's family!
All in all, I had a good time. I always do, even if I don't like to admit it. :)
So it came and it went. The focal point of the summer, and some locals might say the year. Months of planning gone in three brief days, along with the venders, the rides, and the carnies, who call out to you as if they are market vendors and you a passerby in some market in Guatemala. Memories made and corndog eaten. Now to count down to next year's founder's day picnic.
